The book attempts to look at elements and the process that initiated life on our planet in a different perspective.
Iron is a B- level worker in the earth's mantle layer. His dream is to win at the annual convection games. But he looses everytime. Iron looses his job and runs away from his community for not being able to pull off a win. He meets a group of elements and with their help develops a jumping machine to get to the surface of the earth. He looses the game but fulfils his dream of getting to the earth's surface by helping other trapped elements.
The book deals with the concept of earth's inner structure and some basic elements that join together to form important life supporting compounds. It's an indirect way to explaining how the earth was formed.
The game is about basic chemistry. The elements from the periodic table are represented in the form of cartoon characters. The idea is to use these characters to form simple compounds. It attempts to make learning of chemistry a more human experience.
